Watchmen – made up of comedian Dr. Manhattan, Nite Owl II, Ozymandias, Rorschach, and Silk Specter II – is another group of masked superheroes, modeled after Minutemen, who were masked superheroes from a generation earlier, most of whom were dead or struck by the ravages of life. The comedian belongs to both groups. Despite the Watchmen activities that led to the West winning the Vietnam War, which in turn kept Richard Nixon in the White House, Nixon has now banned masks, leading to Watchmen disbanding and retiring , most of which hid their Watchmen past during their human identities. But the comedian, in His Human Persona by Eddie Blake, and Dr. Manhattan – former physicist Jon Osterman who got his superhero powers from a scientific accident that nearly killed him – now works for the government.
